Unfinished black walnut on black walnut, opposing grain butterfly key for a side table top I'm working on. No oils or finishes yet, and it needs some more sanding, but you can start to see some of the beautiful colours (pinks, purples, browns) in the grain. The wood was salvaged from a tree in Coquitlam. The mortise was chiseled by hand and the key rough cut and then shaped and tapered with a file.
